Facts About Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is an infectious disease transmitted by the bite of the Western Black-legged Tick.  Itis the only tick of the 48 species of ticks occurring in California that is known to transmit Lyme disease.  This particlular species of tick goes through several life-cycle stages, but is only capable of transmitting Lyme disease in the nymph and adult stages of its life.  Most cases of Lyme disease however, are transmitted by ticks in the nymph stage, which occurs March through August every year.

Enclosed is a brochure entitled, "The Facts About Lyme Disease".  It is an informative brochure detailing the following:

    - Identification of the Western Black-legged Tick

    - Symptoms of Lyme Disease

    - Tips on Tick Avoidance

    - How To Remove Attached Ticks

    - What To Do If You Think You Have Lyme Disease

This brochure is well suited for tail-gate meetings.  Its purpose is to alert and inform you and your staff of this disease and to provide information on how to protect yourselves.  Please share this brochure with your supervisors and staff.

If you have any questions regarding Lyme disease or other insect transmitted diseases in California, please call David Patzer at (415) 983-5127.
